The Strip
"Werechild" is a creative endeavor begun by a high school student with too much free time and is now maintained by a college student who suddenly has many other things she's required to do with her free time. Plus, this college student has found other, somewhat more gratifying creative endeavors to pursue. So poor "Werechild" often goes on hiatus unannounced and unapologized-for, and that's not very healthy for its social development. It's only three years old. It needs love. So drop the college student a line, and tell her that you like "Werechild," and remind her to draw, because otherwise, she'll forget. The Story "Werechild" is more or less about a ten-year-old girl (Alice) who looks like a boy, rejects consumerism and popular culture in general, struggles with society's expectations, stresses over her changing family structure, rides the spectrum of friendship and defensive antisocial behaviors, and turns into a wolf on a regular basis. Literally. Please don't be misled by the unduly serious list above. Sometimes it's also about chocolate bunnies, miniature golf, cat toys, personal hygiene, bullfrogs, or the banality of the American public school system. And, more than anything, it's just about a weird kid who's pretty frustrated at being continuously punished in a thousand little ways for being different. Warnings There is mild nudity. There is occasional bathroom humor. There are smashed bugs. There is mangled philosophy. There is political commentary. There are lesbians, atheists, weddings, daydreams, insults, and shapeshifters. There is a great deal of goofing off. There are some sloppy drawings. Nobody's perfect.
